Method, sources, and what is missing

A calculator that will not say where its numbers came from is asking to be trusted. This page is the alternative: the sources, the checks, the decisions taken where the sources were silent, and a plain list of the questions this site still cannot answer.

Where the figures come from

Every statutory figure on this site comes from the UAE Government portal u.ae, which publishes the official guidance to Federal Decree-Law No. 33 of 2021 on the regulation of employment relations and to its Implementing Regulation, Cabinet Resolution No. 1 of 2022. Each figure is stored with the source it came from and the period it applies to, and the pages read the stored value rather than repeating it — which is why no page here can disagree with the calculator.

The rate data was last changed in aug 2026. That stamp tracks the data, not the website: it moves when a figure moves, and it is not bumped to look fresh.

What has not happened

Nothing on this site has been through a final sign-off, and the footer says so on every page. The figures follow the sources cited; where this site and a cited source disagree, the cited source governs. If a rule changed recently, it may not be reflected here yet.

We also have not read the gazette. The UAE’s official legislation portal was unreachable from here on every attempt — and this matters for one specific thing, below.

About article numbers

You will see “Article 51” attached to the UAE gratuity provision almost everywhere online. u.ae attributes it that way too, and so does the guidance on work models for Article 30 of the Implementing Regulation. What we can tell you is that an official government platform states those attributions and that we read the wording of the provisions there verbatim.

What we cannot tell you is that anyone here has read the enacted text at those article numbers, because nobody has. So this site cites u.ae — the source it actually read — rather than an article it has not, even though citing the article would look more authoritative. Sending you to look for something we have not seen is not a service.

The weakest number on this site, named

Converting a monthly salary into a daily one requires dividing by something. The divisor this site uses is universally applied and is what every UAE calculator uses — and it is the one figure here that we could not find stated on an official government source.

It multiplies the entire result, so the calculator discloses it on every single answer it produces rather than in small print. If the correct divisor were a working-day count rather than a calendar-day one, every figure this site produces would be too low by roughly a third. That is a real possibility, stated plainly, rather than a risk absorbed silently.

How the calculation is checked

  • The arithmetic is derived from the law by hand. A test suite states the expected figure for each case from the wording of the provision, so a change to the code has to argue with an arithmetic statement rather than with a snapshot of itself.
  • Every result is frozen. A fixed matrix of cases — every band edge, the qualifying floor, the part-year, the ceiling crossing, the work models and every refusal — is recorded and compared on every change, so nothing moves quietly.
  • The refusals are tested like the answers. The cases where this calculator declines to produce a figure are checked as strictly as the ones where it produces one, because a calculator that stops refusing is more dangerous than one that stops calculating.
  • The worked examples are computed, not written. Every figure on the examples page comes out of the same engine the calculator uses, when the page is built.

What this site still cannot answer

These are the questions a reader could reasonably expect this site to answer and it does not, with the reason and where the answer lives. They are listed rather than omitted, because an omission looks exactly like an answer nobody needed.

The questionWhy it is unansweredWhere the answer lives
How much notice is required, and does the notice period count toward my service? The end-of-service research covered the gratuity provision, not the notice provision. Nothing on this site states a notice length, because nobody here has read the text that sets it.Federal Decree-Law No. 33 of 2021 and its Executive Regulations
How many days of annual leave do I accrue, and what is untaken leave paid at?Same gap as notice: the annual-leave provisions were outside the scope of the end-of-service research. The relationship between leave pay and gratuity is explained on this site; the figures are not stated, because they are not sourced.Federal Decree-Law No. 33 of 2021 and its Executive Regulations
Does my probation period count toward the qualifying year?Secondary sources say it does. We could not confirm it on an official government source, so this calculator does not model probation separately and does not tell you it counts. If you are close to the one-year threshold, this is the question to take to your employer.Federal Decree-Law No. 33 of 2021 and its Executive Regulations
How is a part-year rounded — to the day, the month, or something else? The official guidance states that a part-year is pro-rated and does not state the granularity. Nobody here has read the Executive Regulations, which are the most likely place a rounding rule lives. This calculator pro-rates by whole months, and says so.the Executive Regulations to Federal Decree-Law No. 33 of 2021

One entry left this table on 11 August 2026: how a part-time entitlement is worked out. It had named its own source correctly all along — the Implementing Regulation — and the answer was found by going back to a page that had already been read once. The dated record of changes is here.

Corrections

If a figure here disagrees with the source it cites, or a rule has changed and this site has not caught up, that is the most useful thing you can send us. Point at the source and we will fix it — and record the change with a date rather than editing quietly.
