Ten examples, worked end to end
Every example below is produced by the same calculator that runs on the home page, from the same figures, at the moment this page was built. None of them is typed in by hand, so none of them can drift away from what the tool actually does.
The summary, then the working
Eight of the ten cases below produce a figure. Two do not, and those two are the ones worth reading: they are people a competitor’s calculator answers confidently and wrongly, because it never asks the question that would have stopped it.

Eleven months, then the job ended
The qualifying period is the first thing that decides the answer, and below it the answer is nothing at all — not a reduced amount.
- Last basic monthly salary
- 10,000.00 AED
- Service
- 0y 11m
- Your period of service, in years0 + 11 ÷ 12
Nothing is due: 0.00 AED
- You have 0.92 years of service, and the entitlement begins at 1. Nothing is due yet — but the whole period counts from the day it does, not just the part above the threshold.
Exactly one year
The month that turns eleven into twelve is worth a whole year of accrual, because the floor is an eligibility gate and not a band start.

- 10,000.00 AED
- Service
- 1y 0m
- Your period of service, in years1 + 0 ÷ 12

Seven years and six months

Six years, with a long unpaid break
Unpaid leave does not count toward service. Almost no calculator asks, so almost every one overstates this person.
- Last basic monthly salary
- 10,000.00 AED
- Service
- 6y 0m
- Unpaid leave
- 180 days
- Your period of service, in years6 + 0 ÷ 12

- The statutory ceiling on the total24 × 10,000
- Your end-of-service gratuity40,000
Payable: 40,000.00 AED
- 180 days of unpaid leave were taken off your period of service — that is 0.5 of a year — because unpaid leave does not count toward it.
Thirty years on a high basic salary
The ceiling is the last operation, and it is where a long career stops earning more.

Four years at half a full-time week

- Your end-of-service gratuity4,200
Payable: 4,200.00 AED
Twelve years on a three-day week
Long service on reduced hours: the bands and the ceiling are worked on the full-time figure first, and the hours share is applied to the result.

An Emirati in the private sector
Not a smaller number — a different system entirely. The calculator stops instead of answering about the wrong law.
- Last basic monthly salary
- 10,000.00 AED
- Service
- 8y 0m
No figure is produced
This calculation is not the one that applies to you, because you are a UAE national working in the private sector. What covers your end of service instead: the legislation regulating pensions and social securities in the UAE (GPSSA).
Enrolled in the Savings Scheme
Their entitlement is an invested balance plus its returns. No formula produces it, so no formula is offered.
- Last basic monthly salary
- 10,000.00 AED
- Service
- 8y 0m
No figure is produced
This calculation is not the one that applies to you, because you are an employee enrolled in the Savings Scheme. What covers your end of service instead: the alternative end-of-service benefits system (Savings Scheme) under Cabinet Resolution No. 96 of 2023 — an invested fund balance plus its returns, not a formula.
What these examples are and are not
They are the output of the calculator on the home page, run over the inputs shown, at the moment this page was built — 8 of them producing a figure. They are not settlements. Your contract, your final payslip, and anything you owe your employer all affect what is actually paid, and gratuity is only one line of a final settlement.
If your own case is not here, put it into the calculator: it prints the same working these examples show. And if you want the method rather than the arithmetic, the four steps are set out here.
